Avleen is currently pursuing her Masters in Counselling Psychology. She holds a Bachelor’s in Sociology & Counselling and Human Development and a Certificate in Social Justice from SFU. Her passion lies in creating safe spaces to discuss mental wellness in her community. In her free time, Avleen can be found volunteering in the community, shopping, running, and spending quality time with her family and friends.

Jshan is a community advocate who focuses her work on racialized youth and families in Surrey, BC. Being a Punjabi Sikh herself, she is most interested in strategic community development with South Asian communities. In her spare time, she is in nature, with animals, or knitting. Jshandeep is a Masters student at UVic studying Child, Youth, Family & Community Studies. She graduated from SFU with a BA (Hons) with Distinction in Sociology, minor in Criminology, and 2 certificates in Social Justice and Community Capacity Building.

Manpreet’s passions consist of providing safe spaces for youth, creating supportive mental health networks, and empowering minority groups through a culturally competent lens. She is currently completing her masters in Counseling Psychology and is also a teacher for the Surrey School District. Manpreet finds strength in empathy, and is excited to channel that as the Lead Director and Workshop Developer at SAHN. In her downtime, you can find her spending time with her dog, hiking, swimming in lakes, and doing creative things!

Shivy works within the Surrey school district as a child and youth care counselor. He also spends his time advocating for individuals with mental health challenges both locally and provincially. He also runs a podcast focused on real world issues around mental health, philanthropy, and sociopolitical issues. He takes great pride in supporting his local Indo-Fijian Canadian community with philanthropy and community engagement. Aside from the many advocating and volunteer pieces, Shivy enjoys walks with his Malshi Keo, singing, music, and reading. Shivy obtained his Child and Youth Care Counseling Bachelor's degree from Douglas College.

Amy is a second generation Canadian with proud roots in Punjab, India. She is passionate about equitable mental health care that is patient-centered, culturally-relevant, and trauma-informed. In her spare time, she enjoys being outdoors, either somewhere near the water or surrounded by trees. She also enjoys trying new hiking trails with her Goldendoodle, Arthur. Amy graduated from SFU with a BSci Honours in Biomedical Physiology. She has also obtained certificates in Liberal Arts and Community Capacity Building. At SAH, Amy is primarily involved with supporting the research project.
Animal Advisory Board
We work, study, and live in a region south of the Fraser River which overlaps with the unceded traditional and ancestral lands of the Kwantlen, Musqueam, Katzie, Semiahmoo, Tsawwassen, Qayqayt and Kwikwetlem peoples.
